Should you be made to make the time up?

Light controversial topic that I hope might be interesting.

This morning it took me 3 hours to get to work due to rain, the motorway and a 3 car accident.

I left at my normal time of 7:20 to get in for 8am, takes me around 40 minutes usually. I was stuck on the motorway for 3 hours with no diversions or ways out!

I’ve turned up to work at 10am which is within our allowed time.

My manager told me to just leave normal time but is questioning whether that’s the right thing to do!

Do you think an employee should have to make up the time for being late despite it being out of their control and they couldn’t do anything?

This isn’t a debate as to whether I should, I’ll do what I’m told by my manager but this is just using my example for general reasons!
