Long distance relationships?

Question

As we all know having a long distance isn’t particularly easy. It takes patience and strength to go through it and have a successful relationship in the end. 
Would you personally ever be able to have a long distance relationship? 
Have you ever been in one? What was the hardest part for you? Did it survive? If not, did the distance play a major role in the breakup? 
What are your thoughts in general?
I personally could go through with one, it’s not easy, but I’d like to think I’m strong enough for one.

i fought for 4 years to make one work. told everyone that it CAN work if you both want it to.
ultimately, he didn’t want it to, so it all ended.
idk. some people do seem to make it work...just make sure the person is worth investing so much in. remember that you MAY have to bite the bullet and cut your losses and it fucking hurts.

It depends. I think people in serious commitments can make it work. I think early, or unstable relationships are less likely to work.

My husband is in the military so we have a long distance marriage and I only get to see him in person on the weekend. We love each other so much are are entirely committed to each other so we make it work, despite it being difficult. 
We’ve recently just had our first child who is nearly 3 weeks old. The hardest part for me is that our son doesn’t get to see his daddy everyday and I know my husband misses us both so much. Luckily my husband is moving to a base much closer to our home so that should mean we get to see him a little more during the week! 😁

I was in one and was cheated on the entire time. He made me feel like I was crazy for being suspicious or feeling like I was being neglected. Maybe with someone else it would’ve been better but he was pretty much a sociopath. It wouldn’t have worked even without long distance. 
I think long distance takes a lot of hard work and commitment. Both partners need to really want the relationship to work.

My husband and I were long distance for 3 years until we got married. We’ve been married for 3 years now 😊 Sometimes I think long distance was easier 🤪 (just kidding... mostly)

I genuinely believe only a small percentage of people can successfully make them work. I think the reason for the distance can effect things (military spouses for example) everyone I personally know of who's been in one has either been cheated on, dumped and ghosted, or couldn't handle being apart for so long

I am not doing it again. Did it in both my past relationships. Both last around 2 years.
One of them, he was able to hid a whole life from me. 
The other one, we simply grew apart. He got too involved with his other life in the new city and was not making time for us. I had to move my whole schedule to be able to be available in the few days he was available for me. He wouldn't make the same effort and I had to move around his schedule. We were seeing each other maybe every other month even though I was offering to go visit him every two weeks. He would cancel last time, forget I was supposed to go there and schedule other activities... 
I know if both want it to work, it works. But its hard and I have no energy to go through it again.

I had like a baby version of a long distance relationship... we dated about 6 months and lived about a 4 hour drive from one another so we texted/phone called during the week and on weekends either I would visit him or he would visit me - It was a bit exhausting to be honest, and I felt a little pressured into the relationship from the start. I was always a very independent girl. Ultimately his insecurities got the best of him during one of his visits while at lunch with a group of my friends and he excused himself, went to my house, packed his things and then proceeded to call me to tell me he was leaving. I said “okay then, bye” and never looked back while he circled my block a few hours contemplating his idiotic move, before finally actually leaving. 🙄

I did for awhile. It sucked but we knew we were meant to be together. Out college has a three track system for the semesters so you only go to two out of the three. He had the first two and I had the last two. We met during the one semester we were both there on a blind date (on May 6th). After the second date we spent a good amount of time everyday together. When the semester ended we had to think about what that meant for us. Individually we both had come to the same conclusion that we didn't want to break up. We both had gone into the relationship searching for a partner to marry so we decided, on our own, that we were ready to get married. When we talked we discussed out options and how we felt and were surprised that the other felt the same exact way lol. The thing was that he was fron Alaska and I was from Oregon. So the next semester I would be in Idaho while he was in Alaska and the next semester he would be in Idaho but I would be in Oregon. So during Thanksgiving break he flew to Oregon to meet my family and I visited them during my break as well. After I had to go back to school and he came with me for two weeks. While he was there he asked my parents permission to marry me. On December 6th he proposed (out 6th month dating anniversary). He went back to Alaska until the next semester but I went back home to plan wedding stuff and because I was off track. We got married on April 12th and now have been married for over 5 years 😍 We have never had a fight and I still believe he is the perfect match for me. I don believe in soulmates but rather that there are multiple people who could be a good partner and I think we found the most perfect match out of all the possibilities out there

Married a soldier, who then became an over the road truck driver, and we are still married for 11 years. If both parties can handle the alone time and the adjustment phase when they get back together, then yes it can work. It’s not easy and you have to work harder at it then others.
