How can we wean off the nipple shield?!
My son is 20 days old and we have been using the nipple shield since about 4 days old. I really struggled getting him to latch/ stay latched. The consultant in the hospital said he has a ‘2’ tongue tie and to try a shield so we did and it helped, we’ve been using it ever since. He was also 5 pounds at birth so the pediatrician said he might have had issues with latching due to that as well. But I am really wanting to ditch the shield and get him to latch without it. It falls off several times a feed and it seems like soo much milk dribbles out.
I try at least once a day to take the shield off during feeding and seeing if he can latch without it and it hasn’t worked yet.
Any tips or advice? Do we need to get his tongue clipped in order to BF without it? I’d rather avoid that if possible!
