Amoxicillin for infected wound?

Any nurses/doctors out there that can settle this debate I’m having with my husband?😂
Can regular amoxicillin be used to treat an infected cut? I know it can be used for bacterial skin infections, but I don’t think it can treat an actual wound infection.
(Not amoxicillin-clavulanate, just regular 825mg amoxicillin like you’d use for strept throat.)

Don’t take random amoxicillin. You shouldn’t have any to begin with since you usually need to finish the whole run for an antibiotic to be fully effective.

My mom is a nurse and she says it wouldn’t be helpful because you wouldn’t have enough for the full dosage. Antibiotic ointment would do the trick

I'm not a doctor or nurse but I got given amoxicillin when I had a burn on my arm last year so I'm going to go with yeah, obviously you should only take it if you get it prescribed though
