When to call the pediatrician

Ok so this is probably a really dumb question but ftm so I have no idea what I’m doing! When do you call a pediatrician when you’re pregnant and what do you even say like since you aren’t scheduling an appointment cause you don’t know when the baby will be there exactly so idk Im just confused about the whole thing. Do they come to the hospital to check on baby right after you deliver?

So with my first child I had no clue you had to set up a pediatrician, I never even thought about it lol. But the hospital had brought one in and we just stayed with that pediatrician. 
So i would honestly just ask your ob if the hospital brings one in or if you need to find one first. They will know how it works.

Just find one you like, read Yelp reviews, ask local moms, check with your insurance. Once you do that you just wait till babe is born then call and say you need to schedule a newborn exam. They’ll probably just assign you whoever can get you in within that week timeframe but if you’re lucky and have a smaller office then you’ll see the doc you want.

You can find one online or through word of mouth from friends/family. Several pediatricians will do appointments like a meet-and-greet. You can talk to the doc and see if you like their demeanor, bedside manner, etc. if that pediatrician goes to the hospital you deliver at, then yes they will come see the baby. If not, you will see a staff peds doc and go to an appointment a few days after discharge with your chosen pediatrician.

Pediatricians will do interviews for pregnant women. I don't remember what they're called but I met with 3 different pediatricians while I was pregnant with my 1st.

I have set up a new patient inquiry for 30 weeks with one I found through insurance and who has great reviews. They say to try and have someone lined up between 28 and 36 weeks. Hospital will have one on staff though for the big show.

The hospital has a pediatrician that looks over your baby while you're there. Our hospital wouldn't let us leave until we picked one for ourselves and made an appointment for the following week, they gave us a list to choose from

When it got closer to my due date my OB kept asking me which pediatrician I was going with so that they knew I had one for when the baby was born. I called around because I knew most the pediatricians near me were full. I found one finally that were accepting new patients. I let my OB know the name of the pediatrician I was going with and they are the ones who called the pediatrician when my baby was born. She was there immediately when I went for my emergency csection to make sure my baby was ok and was there to schedule my baby’s first appointment. I guess it depends with your OB but I would call around to make sure you find one that is accepting new patients the time your baby is born

The hospital had their own pediatrician and they checked the baby over. I didn’t know what place to choose so they told me which pediatrician they recommended and I called and made his one week appointment when I got home.
