So my bf and I finally moved into our first apartment. It’s a studio basement apartment and we are so happy to have our own space and start this new chapter.

The only downfall is the unbearable heat! I know basements are supposed to be the coolest place in the house but in the summer it all feels the same. We are so uncomfortable day and night. Minutes after a shower we are clammy and sticky. We can’t even cuddle because we cannot bear each other’s body heat. I have non stop heat rashes everywhere and he is now developing some.

We have three fans but it does nothing but blow around hot air and the moment you move away you’re sticky and clammy. We have those tiny basement windows So no AC. I tried opening the windows and it helped a tiny bit but since we are underground we got a lot of cockroaches so that ended real quick! We cannot get a portable air conditioner because of the price.

So we are wondering if anyone who is also trying to survive this summer without an AC has tips on successfully living comfortably without one. Because it’s to the point where we are not even able to sleep then go to work sleep deprived. We’ve become so accustomed to our AC’s prior to moving in that we are having terrible withdrawal. So please please send tips you may have or really good brands of fans or dehumidifiers or air coolers I spent 60 bucks on a Honeywell fan that is honestly worse than my department store brand so I’ll take recommendations this time around before making anymore purchases. (I did look at reviews they were 4.3 stars but the fan is not worth the money compared to my cheap one.)
