Do I have a right to hear my baby’s heartbeat when I go for an ultrasound?

The place I go to get ultrasounds for my pregnancy they say they don’t allow the pregnant women to hear the heartbeat they’ll visually show the rhythm but they won’t let them hear it I was deeply upset and actually started to cry.

No, it’s up to them. At the very beginning you can see a heartbeat but it’s not able to be picked up to be heard. But no, you don’t have a right. As upsetting as that may have been to you, it’s their equipment.

Cry? Or you could have asked the dr and they would have told you its dangerous to use that machine so early in pregnancy. Your doctors not being a mean poop head, hes doing his job and keeping you and your fetus safe

Depending how far you are, they might not be able to hear it yet.  I think there might be a touch of hormones going on here though.  You get to see the rhythm and the heartbeat itself.  That’s always been enough to make me cry with joy.   Either way, if that’s a rule, it must be for a reason.

It depends on the practice I guess. I'm an ob/gyn and I have an ultrasound machine in my office and I always let my patients hear and see the heartbeat of their baby's.

I only heard my babies heartbeat on ultrasound twice. Once at 8 weeks and once again at 20. Other than that it’s been through the Doppler but they “have” to do that at my doctors office. It’s up to them I guess.

In the UK you see the babys heart beat at the 12 weeks scan and hear it for the 1st time around the 16 weeks midwife appoint xx
