Letter of consent to treat in event of emergency for grandparent?

Tiffany

My husband and I are going out of the country for a week in September. Our 1 year old will be staying behind with grandma.

Do I need to get some sort of notarized letter of consent for my mom to have incase something happens to our daughter while we are away?

For example: I broke my arm when I was 12 and had to wait two hours at the hospital to be treated (arm needed to be reset) until they could locate my mother and get her to the hospital to consent treatment.

If something were to happen while we are gone, I don’t want my daughter to be stuck in the position.

How do others go about this?

We are in California, but even though state laws vary it would be nice to know what others have done in the past. Thanks!
