Help!! Baby is constantly breastfeeding at 6 weeks is this normal
Hi Ladies,
Please help any advice appreciated.
My baby is nearing 6 weeks old. She recently has not been napping in the day stays awake and wants to breastfeed throughout. If your lucky will nap for 20-40mins. I have tried various things rocking her to sleep, walking her to sleep, co-sleeping but nothing works. She may fall asleep on the breast but when I adjust us to a comfortable position she starts crying and wants breast again.
She will feed well on the breast, plenty of wet and soiled nappies. You can hear her drinking milk, the lactation consultant has observed and said she is getting milk and I also express milk so supply isn’t an issue. Seems like she likes to comfort suck too. Literally my whole day is sitting and feeding, my nipples ache from switching breasts continuously without a break. I use lanolin and nipple butter all the time and regularly ice on my nipples.
I pump a bottle for her so husband can give her a bottle on the night whilst I sleep for a little bit. Husband will walk baby to sleep and then during the night she gets up regular 2-3hours feeds and sleeps fine.
Till the morning and she is back on the breast constant 😩 it’s really draining at times.
To give me a break she won’t go to anyone in the day other than me.
I’m lucky to have my husband who stays up and feeds her then walks around with her in a wrap till she sleeps 😊 he is my rock.
Has anyone had an experience like this, any advice, suggestion, encouragement to tell me it does get better soon would be appreciated.
I just want this phase to be over 😢 feels like I am going to be doing this forever. I love my baby to bits but at times it can be too much.
TIA Ladies 😊
