Is it a good idea to get an IUD when single?

Question

I was scheduled to get an IUD soon, but broke up with boyfriend yesterday. Do you think I should still get it? Other than condoms, it's the only birth control method I can use (for health reasons). I'm tempted to cancel my gynecologist appointment...

IUDs can take months to adjust to- depending on which one you get. The spotting, or on the copper one- the cramps and intermittent bleeding at random times of the month for the first few (up to like 6 months) months. I’d still do it and give yourself time to adjust. It’s really unpleasant to deal with, I felt WAYY more comfortable getting it when I was single and having time to let my body do what it needed to without thinking about a partner (when to have sex, if they’re comfortable with having sex while your spotting, which could turn into a full blown period).

I would still get it. They last for years and that way if something happens with a condom during a hookup, you're still protected
