Lying about money!
My mom and I are having a yard sale at her house. 3 kids from down the street have come down probably 10 times yesterday alone, and twice today. They bring some money each time and pick up a bunch of stuff. It’s usually about $2.50, but they pick up $20 worth of stuff. So I tell them they can choose 1 item, and it’s usually something for like $5, but I let them take it for what they brought.
Today the girls come down and ask if they can help with the garage sale because they are raising money for their grandparents’ cancer. We tell them that we’re sorry but we don’t really have anything for them to help with. It just hasn’t been a very busy day, and we are selling our stuff to help with our moving expenses, so we can’t really afford to pay them any substantial amount.
A few minutes later, their mom comes down and buys some stuff. She then tells us that they are trying to raise money to go swimming! Ummm, I feel like that’s a vastly different thing than grandparents’ cancer! The older girl (about 14) looks embarrassed and suddenly leaves after her mom says that.
Now I don’t feel 1 bit bad about not letting them to help! Plus, if they wanted to go to the pool so bad, maybe they shouldn’t have bought over $20 of stuff yesterday 🤷♀️
