Ok posting anon out of fear of backlash

Because this really isn’t meant to be a debate post. I would just like genuine answers.

Why do most Christians point out sins that don’t apply to them, when they’re still sinning in other ways. Or pretend to follow the Bible so closely yet they’re sinning

Example: my mother in law smokes weed, has premarital sex, and many more but yet she told her daughter that she couldn’t have a boyfriend before her divorce was finalized because she’d still be legally married and that’s a sin. (But so is sex before marriage, so even if she waited until her divorce it would still be a sin)

Another example: my sister in law is a “super Christian” and brags about how she’s living 100% right by god. She just made a post saying that she knows getting divorced was a sin but she had to and now she’s able to live right again since she’s prayed about it. (The problem is she was having sex with someone else before the divorce even finalized and still is)

I’m not judging them at all because I’m not religious. I’m just curious why do list Christians pick and choose which sins are unacceptable just so they can do as they please. I feel like growing up in the family I did they were all fake Christians and used god to shame us or manipulate us so they’re the reason I no longer believe in him. Stuff like this drives me crazy
