Breast pump?

Question

Question, first time mom. I am 16 weeks and wondering what kind of breast pump any moms can suggest. Manual or electric? Or a brand you may have preferred over another. Or if a breast pump is even worth looking into. Any input is helpful. Thank you beautiful mama’s.

I have the medela which is decent but my co worker had the spectra and highly recommended that one. Hers is way more efficient than the medela.

By the end of my 19.5 months of pumping for my first, I was using a Medela Pump In Style Advance on one boob and a Spectra on the other at each pumping session. Long story, but it worked best that way for some reason. I started out with the Medela and it was just fine! I recommend a manual for being out and about or plane rides, etc. I had the Medela manual. My biggest recommendation is actually the Haakaa silicone pump. It suctions to one boob while you nurse from the other (or manually pump or hand express) and catches the let-down! Life saver and time saver. It would reasonably save a freezer stash for you without you having to actually pump!

I exclusively pumped for a year and a half. Started with Medela PISA before trying the Spectra S2. I prefer the Spectra bc it is vibration with suction, not just strong suction (PISA.) The S1 is portable, but usually an upcharge. The S9 wasn't strong enough for me (stubborn letdown.)

Definitely electric... I used a Medela 12 years ago and it worked well for me. If you can afford one or are able to get a good pump through health insurance, I highly recommend one that way you have the option of pumping and storing some when you may need an evening out without baby or if you want to enjoy adult beverages without worrying about consumption for feeding. I loved mine and fully intend on purchasing one this time as well. I’m going to research and see which one I want to buy.... I still lean towards the Medela out of comfort from my prior experience with it.
