Questions about a D&C

I recently found out that my pregnancy stopped developing approximately 3 weeks ago, meaning I've had a "missed miscarriage". I'm still breastfeeding my son so I don't want to take the pill because I read it can affect my breastmilk. So I'm just wondering what happens with a D&C, I've not booked in yet but I just want people's experiences (if you're willing to share them with me). I have no idea what really happens with a D&C so any information will be helpful, I can't seem to find anything relevant online.
