Maternity leave mess up... anyone other teachers dealing with this?

So I applied for my maternity leave to start September 3, when kids go back to school and planned to work the 3 August days to get my classroom ready. My district started my leave for August so I contacted them to have it changed. They thought I was asking for an extension so just said I can have another week of unpaid time (don’t know why but fine) I wrote another email stating I only wanted to take 12 weeks off as per my FMLA and that it would start on the 3 of September and go through November 25. Cool. I get another email today stating my leave was approved November 19-25...
I called them and tried to explain verbally but also have a paper trail.
Any other teachers dealing with confusion because of summer vacation/ classroom setup?

I took an entire year of leave but my suggestion would be to contact your union president if you are a public school teacher and part of the union. They can help you out!

I had something similar happen to me when I had my first two years ago. My maternity leave started two weeks before the end of the school year and my district considered the rest of the summer to be part of my maternity leave. It was also in my plan to take 12 weeks extra of bonding time at partial pay. I was contracted to go back for the first three weeks of school, one week to set up and two weeks to allow my sub to shadow me (I taught elementary special education). With the three weeks of work and then 12 weeks of leave I was set to return right before winter break. HR made a mistake, not with my dates, but with my sub’s dates. We didn’t realize it until 3 days before I was set to go on my extended leave. It was super stressful because my long term sub couldn’t stay the whole duration and I didn’t know who the second sub was going to be and with special education there are so much to know about IEP’s meetings and behavior plans and I didn’t trust my first sub to explain it all to my second sub. It all ended up okay, but my classroom was left in disarray after 12 weeks. It was worth it though getting to spend an extra few months with my son. Hopefully you’re able to sort through the confusion and your leave goes smoothly!

Yes! HR considers my summer my maternity leave and wanted me to take my pay it during the summer. I told them I had a doc saying I needed another month to recoup after my hard labor and breastfeeding issues so I was going to ask for short term disability since I didn’t do the maternity leave in the summer. Still waiting to see if the paperwork gets approved so whether I go back in two weeks or six is up in the air. Sucks.

I’m just going back at the start of school 😔 
I missed the last two weeks and apparently it was a literal shit show and they tore apart my classroom. The long term sub had no management at all. It made me glad to not have to deal with that ever again.

My district views summer as my maternity leave so I have to go back September 3rd. I took 2 extra weeks unpaid and my daughter will be 11 weeks old when I go back. UGH
