Mental breakdowns during “me time”

So I deleted social media about a month ago to take some “me time” and try to discover myself and get a better mindset. During this time I’ve had a lot of mental breakdowns just when I thought I was getting better. Is this what happens though? In a weird way, are the breakdowns a part of growth?

I just feel like I haven’t made any progress.

I’m not sure if this makes sense, I’m just wondering if there is light at the end of the tunnel of trying to self discover
