I'm afraid to go to my due date

Devon

At my appointment yesterday where I was 38 weeks exactly, the ultrasound tech told me that this baby is measuring bigger than my last. Approximately 8 lbs 1 oz and a week ahead for everything else. She was pretty much right on with my first daughter on the weight (I went into labor the day after the ultrasound) so I trust that she's correct.

I tore with my first daughter who was 7lbs 12 oz, so I'm terrified to go to 40 weeks and have a 8 1/2 or 9 lbs baby. I want to labor without an epidural because it messed me up so badly last time. I doubt I'd be able to handle it with such a big baby.

Did anyone else have a big baby without an epidural and were you able to cope with the pain?

It’s not proven to be more painful having a bigger baby. It also doesn’t mean you will tear more. There are a lot of other factors that go into tearing. If the baby is well positioned then it doesn’t matter the size. Try not to worry or stress about it! You can push out your baby regardless of size and don’t need an epidural just bc it might be bigger🤗

I have actually heard from my doula and midwives that sometimes bigger babies are actually easier to birth. They have stronger muscle tone and can “help” themselves out better. I just read an article yesterday about a woman who had a 14 pound baby with no tearing.

Feeling the same way right now 😭 had an ultrasound yesterday at 37+1 and they estimated that he’s 7 pounds 6 ounces and his head is measuring 2 weeks ahead. RIP to our vaginas 🙏🏼

They estimated my baby will anywhere from 8-10 pounds at my 36 week ultrasound. He was already measuring 7 lbs then. They told me I won't be able to get anymore growth scans because he's too big for it to be accurate. I'm 38+3 now, I'm hoping he comes soon

First of all, it's not exact science, it's just an estimate. My son was measured 2.2 lb off 2 days before he was born. Also I delivered 2 babies weighing 8.5 and 8.4 without any issues and I am petite. You can do this.

I’m feeling the same way. At 39 weeks my girl was 9lbs so I’m terrified to go over my due date (which is tomorrow).

No advice but here to sympathize. First was 8lb 15oz at 39+4, had a vacuum assisted delivery and ended up with a 3rd degree tear. This baby was already measuring 6lb 12oz at 34+1, putting him over the 100th percentile 😣 estimated to be almost 10lbs at 40 weeks. I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow, and other than the doctor offering a stretch and sweep at my appointment this friday they won't induce me unless a medical issue arises. RIP vagina.

My first was born at 38 weeks and was 6lbs 8 oz and I didn’t tear. My second was born at 38 weeks and was 7lbs 14oz, was posterior and I had a small tear because of that (no stitches) from him. I pushed with my contractions and didn’t rush the process. Listen to your body. You got this.

My first baby was 8lbs 9oz. I labored for 18 hours total (8 hours active at the hospital). No epidural. No meds at all actually. It was manageable until the very end and then it was time to push and the baby was out soon. Honestly the pain part wasn’t what got to me most. The exhaustion and loss of my sense of time passing got to me more.

I don’t think that it’s an exact science. I was told my whole pregnancy with my son he was a huge baby. I was told to be prepared for at least a 9lb baby. He came out at 6lbs 11oz🤷🏼‍♀️
