Pronunciation troubles?

My husband and I are expecting our first and have loved the name Seamus for years. I want to use the traditional spelling but would people have a hard time figuring out how to say it or spell it?

I think it depends where you live. I'm in N.Ireland so would have no problem but spend a lot of time in some parts of US and I know some of the ones I work with or socialise with would struggle. On the other hand I feel like half the people I meet in US claim they are Irish so would probably have no issues with pronouncing it. 
Thing is though even if someone isn't sure how to say it, once they are told they will know. It's a well known name so it will be remembered easily enough. 
I think though if you are going to use it then use the proper spelling, I've seen so many people spell Seamus with "alternative" spellings that are just made up and weird 😂

I don't think it would be too much of an issue the spelling is pretty straightforward and i think even if they've never seen/heard the name before it wouldn't be too difficult to figure out. Plus i want to say it's somewhat popular in pop culture and moat people have probably heard it in a movie/tv show at least once or twice. I say go for it.

ive never grasped that hidden “sh” deal 🤔

I’m half Irish but was born and grown up in Australia and I’ve known a few Seamus here. Pronounciation has alll been fine.

I know how to say it only because I’ve met one. But honestly when he first told me his name, there’s no way I would have spelled it correctly.

In the US, most likely it won’t be pronounced with the sh sound. But the name was in Harry Potter soooo maybe now people might pronounce it right.
