Pap smear? What to expect ?

I recently turned 21 and I’m pregnant with baby #2 and I go in on Tuesday to get a Pap smear (my first ever) and a dating ultrasound. I’m so scared. Like what should I expect??

You may experience some bleeding after...just light pink when you wipe. That is normal! :)

Yeah in the UK we arent allowed a PAP until after baby is born xx

That’s odd. Here you’re not allowed a Pap smear when pregnant.

I’ve never had a pap smear while pregnant, but normally they just stick a speculum in your vagina and open it up to take a better look at your cervix. They’ll take a long a-tip and take a culture of your vaginal fluids. Sometimes they can tell just by looking if there’s an infection of some sort. Then they’ll clip off a bit off tissue for testing. That’s the worst part. It’s just a little pinch, but sometimes there’s cramping associated afterwards. My suggestion would to be to take some Tylenol before you go in to help with the cramping it may cause. :) good luck! Nothing to worry about ♥️

I just had one today and it didn’t feel any different than a normal pelvisand I’m 8 weeks pregnant

Just feels like a little scratch on the inside. Doesnt hurt much but it its awkward. Literally takes like 20 seconds.

I had a pap while pregnant with my first and I’ll have another in a few weeks (plus all the others I’ve had over the years). It’s really no biggie. It’s never felt like more than pressure to me. The more you relax, the quicker and easier it is. And at your prenatal appointment, your doc will already be doing a physical exam, so they will already be all up in there anyway. 😉
Out of all the things you’ll go through with pregnancy and birth, Pap smears are nothing to worry about. Super quick and easy.
