Can’t trigger let down?
Hi ladies.
I failed miserably at breastfeeding my firstborn; he could never properly latch and he became so easily frustrated from day one if he received nothing (I barely produced colostrum in comparison to now) and that plus a traumatic birth and difficult recovery meant I lasted three weeks pumping and no more.
I’m now on day 3 PP. My LO has been receiving formula to supplement because of weight loss but has not had any issue with nipple confusion as of yet (he latches well). My milk came in this morning, and my breasts are hard and sore. No matter what I try, I can’t seem to trigger a “let down”. I don’t know if he’s getting any milk and when I pumped with my first son, I could never trigger a let down then either and only pumped foremilk which he could not gain weight on and he had gas with.
I honestly don’t know what to do. My breasts are already large (DD) and now my LO seems overwhelmed by the size of my breasts and he’s struggling to feed.
Is pumping going to damage my supply? Is it normal to just not know when you’re having a let down? I need help. 😭
