Worthwhile or???

Question

Was given advice from another mom that I've never heard of before. She said she started pumping at 36 weeks to save up the colostrum in case her milk didnt come in so she wouldnt have to use formula at the hospital. 
Has anyone heard of or done this? Genuinely interested in this as I know colostrum comes in early and is super good for baby.

You’re not supposed to pump early because it can induce labor. Doctors say not to.

That’s usually only recommended for medical reasons and only under doctors guidance. As the other comment says, it can cause preterm labor.

Just had my bubs on Friday. At advice from midwife and Obstetrician from 37 weeks (not any earlier) I was advised its ok to hand express colostrum and collect to be used when bubs was born. They provided me with these 3ml little syringes that I filled and froze. This is what my daughter was feed from birth then I started her on formula. Due to personal reasons I chose to bottle feed not breast feed but having the first few feeds with colostrum is great for newborns gut health and immune system and to also pass the meconium (their first tar like poo.)

I don’t think this is necessary or helpful, just adds stress to the end of pregnancy. If your baby needs 1 or 2 formula bottles in the hospital, it in NO WAY means you won’t be successful breastfeeding.
