Ovarian Cancer
A few weeks ago I had surgery to remove a 10 pound tumor that started growing in my left Ovary. I had an Oophorectomy and appendectomy (bc my appendix showed signs of endometriosis) leaving me with my uterus, my right fallopian tube and right ovary. The tumor grew to the size of a watermelon and took over my entire abdomen. I looked 9 months pregnant. It was a type of cancer called Mucinous Cancer, a rare and fast growing type. The doctors estimate it had been growing for about 8 months. I had cancer for 8 months, and had no clue it was there...
I had started experiencing a pain around where my left ovary was before a hiking trip to Maine I took at the end of May. I assumed at the time that I had pulled a muscle, as I had been unemployed for some time and sitting around, I figured I'd overexerted an underused muscle in my abdomen. When I got home the pai. Had gotten progressively worse, so I went to the ER and got a CT scan... and here we are now. It's been and insane couple of months but I am ecstatic to announce that, at 28 years old, I am officially CANCER FREE!
Ladies, please dont ever ignore or write off and unusual pain you may have. I remember feeling silly and like I was being dramatic for getting a CT scan for what I was sure was a strained muscle, but turned out to be cancer. You know your body better than anyone else, it's never a bad thing to be vigilant.
