Help with BLW please! 💕

Andie

Hi all!

So my guy is 9 months tomorrow, and he is not a fan of eating solids. When I sit him down and try to feed him purées, he bats my hand out of the way, grabs the spoon, shuts his mouth, or just starts crying. I’m lucky if I can get him to eat 3 or 4 tiny bites.

Do you think this means he doesn’t want me to feed him and he would rather just do finger foods? I can get him to eat guacamole and hummus off of my finger, but when I try and feed it to him on a spoon, he won’t eat it.

For finger foods, he only eats these teething rice wafers, though he does love them! They’re super easy to hold, and dissolve easily in his mouth. With the soft foods like banana and avocado, all he does is play with it and mash it up, he doesn’t eat it. Ive left the peel on so he can hold it, and he still just mashes it up and smears it everywhere.

For other foods that he can’t mash, he will put in his mouth, but then 9 out of 10 times, he gags so much that he throws up. He doesn’t know how to swallow it yet I guess. I’m exclusively pumping and am working really hard to make only half of what he drinks, so to see him puke up the milk is frustrating for me. I know he needs to practice, and I’m all for that, but not at the expense of him puking up the breastmilk all the time. 🤦‍♀️

What are some suggestions for food that is easy to hold and something he’s less likely to gag so much with? I know gagging is normal, but maybe something that’s soft enough so he can swallow it easily?

He’s had lots of fruits and veggies and egg and beef and bison and shrimp, he’s really had a lot of food given to him, and it’s almost always the same result...gagging and puking.

Thank you so much for your help!! 🙏🥰
