Would you take sleep training advice from a doc who's never had kids?

This advice was (unsolicited) to do CIO. But I felt like I f she's never been up with a screaming baby @3 am she doesn't know what she's talking about. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just don't think she gets it in general.

As someone who worked with kids for almost 15 years before I had my own, I’d be pretty offended if someone just wrote me off because I didn’t have my own yet. You’re welcome to say “hey, CIO isn’t for us” but that’s different than “we’ll you don’t know since you aren’t a parent.”

A lot of doctors are constantly going by the book, which is nice, they have rules and regulations for a reason. But I can always tell when a doctor has children, they just seem more understanding of certain things, and offer their own personal advice. I feel like it does make a huge difference. Before I had my son I’d tell myself “oh I’m gonna do this and it’s gonna be like that” and so on, and then I had him and it was all different, I realized life isn’t so simple when you’re 1 person trying to live for 2.

Yes I would take advice from a dr who didn’t have kids, but it also depends on the advice, I guess... if you mean CIO for a baby who is a month old, and hungry in the middle of the night, then no. I won’t do that. But if you mean let a 3 year old CIO for a night or two while getting them to start sleeping in their own room or something, then yeah.

Just because she doesnt have kids doesnt mean shes not dealt with children. Could have nieces and/or nephews that shes cared for. 
Does my head in people that think just because they dont have kids that they cant give advice. 
Before I had my son I gave advice all the time because I had experience in child care etc, some people are grateful for a fresh approach from someone who doesnt have kids as they look up more current approaches rather than someone else who has learnt older ways from someone else...which doesnt always work.
The doctor could have a background in child care and went on to be a doctor....you just dont know 🤷‍♀️
I used a more relaxed CIO to sleep train my LO so you could try it out and if it doesnt work have a look on google and see other methods 😊

I’m assuming a pediatrician knows a thing or two about kids. You don’t have to take anyone’s advice though

I would always listen to advice from my doctor. But if my doctor suggested the CIO method I would find myself a new doctor.
