Can i refuse to pay rent in this situation?

Our AC goes out once a week. They found the issue. Were told they'd come fix it within a week and haven't. Gets above 90 where I'm living in August. This is 7th time this summer its gone out. Why should i pay rent when the problem is making an unbearable living situation for me and other people in my apartment?

Because you live in the house, not the AC 🙄 you can’t just not pay rent because one thing isn’t functioning that you don’t need to survive. But a fan till it’s fixed and carry on

In most states, AC is not a necessity so no. You cannot stop paying your rent because the AC went out. You need to report the broken AC to the landlord, let them fix it, if they don’t fix it then you need to consider going to a small claims court but that’s more of a headache than necessary. 
I would look directly into the laws that apply to your state to see what your options are.

But anyways, I wouldn’t refuse to pay it. If you do, they can evict you. I would call in on them and report it, but I wouldn’t risk being kicked out

Look at your contract with your landlord: it depends on the contract, my friend lived in a apartment building and the ac unit was for the whole building and within her contract if a complaint was filed then they had to tend to it within 48hrs and they didn’t come out til the weekend 4days later. So she was able to withhold rent. 
But most cases no, you can’t. I’d just read through your contract again see what it says.

Nope you can’t withhold rent. You CAN break your lease tho. You’ll have to give the landlord a 30 day notice that you plan to vacate if it’s not fix. If you withhold rent they can sue you.

You can look up the laws but I don’t think AC is something that has to be provided. You’ll still be responsible for your rent and utilities.
