With PGS testing how many cycles of IVF ICSI are needed if 38?

I am 38 years old. I am really trying to work out all the costs and I’ve been offered the 3 ICSI cycle offer with 50% refund if unsuccessful. I am happy I was accepted as there was a medical review for this. However, if I take this offer, I cannot afford to PGS testing and I can barely afford the medication on top. If I do the ICSI multi-cycle which is two cycles, I can just about PGS twice, but I would definitely not be able to save for another cycle. Thanks

I am choosing No PGS testing and Day 3 embryos to implant or freeze. All the research I’ve seen has revealed PGS testing only tests the outer layer of the embryo which becomes the placenta. And most of the time, that layer has abnormal cells but this doesn’t indicate anything is wrong with the embryo inside. So just say no the PGS.
As for using Day 3 vs Day 5, an embryo is not built to survive in a petri dish. The only thing accomplished by waiting until Day 5 is the death of perfectly good embryos. I’m freezing or implanting Day 3 embryos.

I’m 41 and have done one round of IVF with ICSI. My cycle yielded 4 embryos by Day 6.  We sent those 4 for PGS testing and 2 came back NORMAL.  I’m glad we did PGS to avoid those 2 abnormal embryos possibly miscarrying. Best of luck with whatever you decide

There is no way to tell. I have normal amh and did ivf due to male factor and one cycle gave me 7 pgs normal embryos (3 abnormal). Every person responds differently and every protocol is different as well.

I was 38 when I started one IVF cycle in January... 39 now. By day 5 after retrieval I had only 2 embryos to PGS test. Of those, only one tested normal. Because of a previous miscarriage and our ages, we wanted to test. The challenge with PGS is that you need your embryos to make it to day 5 to test them. Regardless of what you decide up front, the actual decision is made in real time on day 3 after your retrieval. It is a really gut wrenching choice if you don't have many embryos at day 3. There is a very real chance none make it to day 5 and there is no predicting how your embryos will do in the lab. It was the hardest choice we've ever made. Fast forward to today and I am so very blessed because our one normal day 5 embryo stuck and I am currently 24 weeks pregnant. We went for it, prayed, and trusted the process to turn out how it was supposed to. Talk it through with your partner now and be ready to talk it through again on day 3. Would they allow you to bank all embryos from all the retrievals and PGS at the end?  I know some people do that to save money.  But my overall advice depends on your history.  If you have had previous mc, I would recommend the PGS.  If your issue is sperm quality or something along those lines, I might opt for no PGS.  We did PGS due to age (41), and history of mc’s with one confirmed genetic abnormality.  Good luck!
