How do you determine position of cervix?

So we’re officially trying to conceive our rainbow baby. It has definitely been challenging at times. But some women are able to determine if their cervix is open, its position and information like that. I’m new to fully TTC. Meaning we’ve had unprotected sex for years, and I’ve logged my periods but never took opk’s. I’m just wondering if some would be kind enough to explain how to gather such information. Any tips, advice or explanations would be SO GREATLY APPRECIATED. Please?

This is all the info I have so far. To me it makes no sense.

I prefer to do it in the shower, squat down and put your back straight. Use your longest finger and reach in. 
The length is determined by the lines on the finger(photo) 
If your cervix is open it’ll feel like, imagine a cheerio not as open but you’ll feel a little hole. 
Remember SHOW. Soft(like your lips) High(whole finger is in) Open(like a Cheerio) Wet. Means ovulation is near or happening. 
If you can try to start when you’re on your period, that’s exactly how it’ll feel when you’re about to or are ovulating minus the blood. 
If it’s hard it’ll feel like a ripped apple. You can still feel it somewhat soft but it’s stiff. 
When you’re down ovulating, stop checking you do not want to introduce bad bacteria even if you’ve cleaned! Your nails underneath may be dirty. 
Some women produce more cervical mucus than others so if you don’t see it on your finger doesn’t mean it’s not there, it’s just staying in the cervix where it’s needed.

I have been checking my cervical mucous and position everyday now for over 2 years. Cervical position is relative to everyone so you’ll just have to check it everyday and learn your own pattern. What feels open and high up for one person can be different from the next. As for trying to conceive, learning your cervical mucous would be more useful. Look out for the watery, clear, slippery, stretchy, lubricative fluid! There is book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility that I HIGHLY recommend.

There are also great apps to chart these things such as Kindara. This is one of my charts where i log by basal body temperature, cervical mucous, and cervical position daily. This reflects clear ovulation

Definitely use opks and temp to confirm ovulation that would be most accurate and the cervix and cm can change way to much to know when you ovulate or if you ovulated
