The first thing that came to mind for me is the Salem witch trials :/

With the name Salem, a lot of people’s first thought is persecution and paranoia. Personally I wouldn’t want to name my child something that half the people she meets will have a negative association with.
I like weird names, so I don’t mind the idea of a name that many people don’t like. But I would be uncomfortable with a name that many people have a specific negative association with. If that makes sense. Mostly because I don’t want people associating my child with bad things, or having a subconscious bias against my kid because their name reminds them of bad things, etc.

I love the name Salem. I've come across a few people who have named their baby girls Salem. I think it's cute.

Salem sounds like the witch trials but also more boyish. Selina Rae sounds pretty though

I like it, but Salem’s my cat’s name! Which, sometimes I get weird reactions from people when I tell them his name. So just be prepared for that if you name your daughter Salem. She could always go by Sam as a nickname?
