Do you think this would be a good crib or should I get a solid wood crip

When I put the baby in the portable crib, it's very hard to bend down that low. Also, since she likes to pull on everything, I don't think a portable crib would hold up very well in the long term. 
With that said, if you need to use the portable crib because it's the cheapest or any other reason, I think you could make it work.

I used a pack n play since birth and never got a crib.. also never got those extra pieces on top just a plain one

I used a pack n play for both my kids. Much easier and you can move it around the house or take it camping , to a hotel , etc.

Mine later begged me to let him sleep in his pack n play over his crib.

Ours is hard. The insert on top didn't seem too bad, but I never felt comfortable having her sleep on something so hard. I loved it when we got it, traveling and having her take naps on the insert, but stopped naps once she got bigger. We have a crib that we use more now. We had a different style than this one, it may be different. I always tried to go to the store as much as possible to try and see, feel, or test the products I wanted before ordering them.

The only thing I find with these (and maybe they are all different, idk lol) is that they seen very uncomfortable for regular sleep.. not sure if some are softer but mine is literally thick hard cardboard lol

First 6 months should be fine. After you'll want a crib unless your planning to co-sleep.
