How do you feel about spanking?

I, personally, am 100% against it. I believe it doesn’t teach kids anything other than violence.

Not spanking like the old days with belts and tree twigs 🤕 but a lil tap tap on the hand on bum to let the “child” (2-5years old) know that something serious just happened and that it’s an unacceptable behavior. You talk and warn your kid all the time about all kids of stuff, but I think if the child really acted out there should be a different way of communicating so it sets it apart from other actions and reactions.

I don’t think it does anything but show my son how to completely lose your emotions and control of yourself. Do I think it’s child abuse? No. But there are much better ways of disciplining a child. I’d rather him grow up to respect me rather than fear me. My mom spanked me and I just learned how to be sneaky and not trust her. To each their own.

It’s not ok to hit other adults. It’s a crime. Even a slap or “pop” is not ok. My husband doesn’t get to “pop” me because he is frustrated with me. Why do people think it’s ok to do to the most vulnerable, trusting members of our society? These are the people who we are responsible for keeping safe, who trust us implicitly, and who have no other options but us.  I would leave my husband if he ever put a finger on me but my children have no where to go. We are all they have.  It makes me physically ill thinking that people violate their children like this.  There is no amount or type of hitting that is ok. 
Moreover, study after study shows hitting doesn’t even work. You can’t model good behavior with violence (all hitting is violence) and fear (it’s all meant to make the child afraid). It’s for weak people who lack the skills and mental discipline to be parents. They need to take classes, read books, and develop the introspection, empathy and self control required to love and nurture children.

You don’t just believe it...research backs how you feel about it. I think it’s lazy and the easy way out. I get backlash every time I comment that and I don’t care. It causes unnecessary trauma and models exactly what you don’t want the child to do.

My son responds to time outs personally. But I above popped his bottom for a few things sparsely, but its more of a pat and to say “hey listen buddy!” Lol

I think every child responds to different forms of discipline. For example, my older brother responded only to time outs when we were little. Spankings did absolutely nothing for him and didn't teach him anything. I, on the other hand, only responded to spanking. I didn't care about time outs, all it did was give me time to think about how to get away with it next time. Besides, every time my parents wanted me to apologize afterwards, I apologized but I was never really sorry. I just said I was because I knew it would get me out of trouble. When I was spanked, I understood the impact of whatever I'd done. I'm not emotionally or mentally scarred from it and I am perfectly normal. I will use the form of discipline my son best responds to, whether it's spanking, time outs, or something else.
Every kid learns in different ways and I don't think anyone should be bashed or shamed for simply helping their child learn the way that's fit for their specific needs.
