3rd Trimester Depression

Gina

So I was diagnosed with depression long before I got pregnant and have been taking 25mg of Zoloft the entire pregnancy. It was effective the first and second trimester, but once I hit the third trimester 2 weeks ago, I've been struggling with depressive symptoms since. I'm very much in tune with my body and emotions, and knew something was off and I knew what I was feeling was depression. I had a routine appointment with my Psychiatrist today, who specializes in pregnant women's mental health. I told her what's been going on the past 2 weeks and she informed me that during the third trimester, the amount of fluid in a pregnant woman's body increases significantly, which can dilute any medications she's taking. This is why 25mg has been effective for me up until the third trimester. We agreed to increase my dose to 50mg.

I thought this was pretty interesting to learn and thought I'd share it with any other women who seem to be struggling emotionally in the third trimester.
