L&D protocols for other kids

Ashley • Happily married, have a wonderful son, and a sweet baby girl 💜

So I'm going to call the hospital tomorrow, but I figured I would ask and see if anyone has had this experience before. I have 19 days until my due date. Baby could come at any time, which would be fine BUT I have a 2 year old. We are currently stationed in VA and our families live in CA. No one can fly out (to expensive, can't get time off work/school, etc.). I work from home so I don't have any really close friends out here to rely on. My husband has a few friends that we don't mind watching our son during the day, but if anything were to happen at night we have no idea what to do. I believe they don't normally allow kids in the actual L&D room, but what if it's an emergency, like my water breaks at 2am and we don't have anyone to watch him. Would they force my husband to miss the birth to watch our son in the hall? I am just stressing about this because labor can literally happen at any time and I don't want my husband to miss our daughter's birth but we're at a loss as to our options

**UPDATE**

So I called L&D this morning, and since it is a military hospital, they said that this happens all the time. I will be allowed to bring in my son and they offered to have a nurse sit with him while I'm pushing so my husband can be with me. While I know this is not the norm, I'm beyond relieved as it is one less thing we have to scramble and stress about
