Mucinex Sinus-Max
Hello! I’m 6 weeks and 4 days and I’m pretty sure I have a sinus infection :/ these are very common for me, so I knew it was just a matter of time before I came down with one in my pregnancy. I had my first prenatal visit two days ago, and I was already starting to experience sinus issues, so I talked to my OB about it. She said that since my blood pressure is on the low side of normal, I could take anything over the counter. Also, in my “pregnancy packet” I was given, it says that Mucinex products are approved for congestion/sinusitis, so my husband got me Mucinex Sinus-Max, which has active ingredients Guaifenesin, phenylephrine, and acetaminophen. I took two doses yesterday (the maximum number of daily doses is 6) and this morning, for some reason, I decided to Google it to make sure it’s fine to take. Well, the internet, as usual, is full of scary information. Basically, a number of sites said to stay away from Mucinex in the first trimester. So I called my doctor’s office and they again reassured me that it’s fine to take, and said that in your first trimester, everything is a risk, and bad things can happen even if we don’t take anything, but it’s better for me to be healthy for my baby and take Mucinex than to just stay sick. I trust my OB, but I’m still freaking out a little. Has anyone else ever had experience with taking Mucinex or otherwise treating a sinus infection in their first trimester?
