Genetic testing?

Question

So I am 8 weeks with my first baby, and I was told there is an ultrasound you can get between 11-13 weeks to test for any abnormalities. Doctor said it was my choice to do it and not everyone does, but if I choose to I have to book soon cause it has to be done within that 11-13 week window. Did you choose to have it done or not?

I’m 27 healthy and no family history. We opted out of it entirely. The thing is the blood work and ultrasound only give you a percent chance of the abnormalities. The only way to know for certain is to do an amniocentesis but that can have risks and sounds pretty unpleasant. I feel like it only causes more worry unless you are willing to follow up with a more invasive test. 
The other thing is, even if you get a positive result, there is nothing to be done. I told the doctor I only wanted to be tested for things that would require treatment or that there was something to be done to improve things. He said none then. 
Sense my risks are low, I figured there’s no reason to go through all that.

I had the NT scan at 12 weeks to check for any genetic abnormalities. Some people do it and some people don’t. My Obgyn told me about it and I decided to get it done and I don’t regret it . It was ultrasound and bloodwork. 
The test consists of two parts - the ultrasound and bloodwork done on week 11-13  and then the second part is done on week 16 and that’s just bloodwork (no ultrasound).

I couldn't do the NIPT due to having a vanishing twin. Long story I won't go into. So we opted for the NT scan. I'm glad we did. Even if it didn't have a happy ending. 
I would say to do the scan if you want to know and be prepared for any issues. Or even for just peace of mind. For some people it doesn't matter what the baby has, it wouldn't change anything for them. You're pretty young so your chances of having an chromosomal/genetic issue is slim. And depending on your health insurance it may not be fully covered.  Also, as a previous poster stated, the NT scan is not a diagnostic tool. It just assesses risk. CVS and amnio only can give a diagnosis.
Anatomy scans later on can also reveal any issues as well. So if there is something going on with the baby the doctors will find it. 
So really up to you. If anything, with the NT scan you get to see your baby which is always nice!

There is a blood test you can do that early but not an ultrasound (not one I have ever heard of). It was expensive so we decided to wait until our 16 week quad screening. It could be worth it if you’re older or there is a history of abnormalities in your family.

I had a carrier screening, NIPT, and an NT (Nuchal Translucency) scan done. I don’t regret any (All came back clear/low risk/negative). 
I wanted to be as informed as possible with my pregnancy, and having peace of mind made things so much easier for me.
