Any upright knowledgeable piano players?

Bo

So, I recently acquired an upright Gulbransen piano, it was made in 1915 (it's not one of the player pianos) from a friend of ours who had the intention to learn to play the piano but as the story goes.. the piano sat in their house for a few years while collecting dust and she decided to part ways with it when they were moving so my husband and a few friends loaded it up and brought it home... it's a Gulbransen and is in a mahogany wood case and it sounds...Alright, I guess? I mean it doesn't burn my ears when I play it but it has some odd vibrations and the E7 key has a tendency to stick here and there and three of the tops of the sharp keys have been broken off but my husband has made replacements for them.. a lot of the sharp keys have chips and dings on them but the white keys are in decent condition after I cleaned them up.. I'm not completely sure if they are the original keys or not and I'm also not sure if they are plated with ivory.. or plastic..

it looks like this piano at some point may have been stored in a humid environment like a storage unit or perhaps experienced some kind of water damage from being outside or something.. the pianos base is sturdy but there's some gashes in it.. and it isn't wobbly. The pedals seem to do what they should when pressed.. all in all.. when I play it..it doesn't sound terrible.. but it doesn't sound amazing.. I'm not sure if a tune up will take care of that.. I'm also not sure if it can actually be tuned to A-440 as I don't think the strings can make it through the stretching process without them needing to be replaced.. and I can't even tell you when the last time this thing had a service done to it.. I'm fairly sure that our friend never had it tuned up.. but I don't know the pianos history before her buying it a few years ago.

I've added some photos of the piano as a reference...I would love some guidance/advice on if this piano will be worth sinking in the time and money into it.. or if I should just have it tuned to the best of its ability.. play it for now and when it's time for us to PCS (move to a new base) in a few years just buy a nicer piano when the time comes.
