I can, but I've used press ons a lot.
They look good even if you can tell, and that should be all that matters.
I go through phases where I might get stressed or something and start biting my nails. I always use press ons to break that habit and always get tons of compliments on them.  A lot of people who don't use them can't tell them as easily. 
They look good.

Your cuticles are what gives it away. Any decent nail tech (although they aren’t all) would cut your cuticles down. However, it took me a LONG time to get my press ons looking good! Still very cute :)
