Can you have a negative test for a UTI and still have a UTI?

I went to the doctor because I knew I has a Uti. He did a dip urine test and told me I had no infection.
He sent the sample to the lab anyways and then rang the next day to say it came back with an infection. 🙄

Yes! My mom does all the time. Shes diabetic and the infection quickly moves up to the kidneys so standard uti tests come up negative
