When should you size up in diapers?

My daughter has only had on blow out and it wasn't due to diaper size.... It was up her back. But I moved up a size when I noticed the diaper looked a little tight or if she peed out of it.

I moved up when my son had blow outside but mostly peed through them...if it cant last 2-3 hours then I go up

Weight gain for us , of if I see lines on my daughters skin. Blowouts mean nothing, she gets them even if diaper is bigger size or 2.

Blowouts, my girl is really long so there is always an awkward point where the next size up diaper is too loose in the legs and the size smaller is too short on her... 
Cloth diapers are amazing for tall skinny babies specifically for this reason lol 
My daughter has never outgrown diapers based on weight it’s always been height
