Does anyone know why a faint line on an LH strip is considered a negative result? Thanks!

Answer

You always have trace amounts of LH in your urine throughout your cycle.
In order for ovulation to occur & for an egg to be released you need to have that big surge of LH which would give you the positive ovulation test — the test line being as dark or darker than the control line.
