I wash EVERYTHING before my baby gets it. There is no reason to expose him to all the chemicals and manufacturing residue that may be left. I also hate the smell of plastic and a good wipe down helps a lot.

Most are removable and can be thrown in the washing machine. You would want to get the factory smell out and any lingering chemicals.
