Natural Birth Recovery?

Question

To all the mommies who had a natural birth, how was your recovery after? 
I’m still in the first trimester but I’m becoming more and more curious about this option as I research.

There is a wonderful book by Ina May Gaskins. It’s called “Guide to Childbirth” I HIGHLY recommend it. It has tons of all natural positive birthing stories. It was a big game changer in a few of my friends birthing strategies. They got the birth they desired after gaining knowledge from the book.

It was amazing amd smooth. I've had two home births, and planning a third with my third baby next year. As soon as the baby comes out, it's almost like nothing happened. Although you feel great, your body did just go through a lot so you have to force yourself to take it easy because it has a lot of recovering to do on the inside. My midwife had to keep reminding me to sit my butt down and tell my husband to do things for me immediately after birth. My first labor was very hard, but first labors are almost always pretty slow. My second was a breeze. I pretty much did it myself. My midwife just walked in the room last minute to catch the baby. Your body knows what to do. it doesn't need people checking your dilation every certain amount of time or anything. I am a huge advocate for natural birth, but I'm a bigger advocate for a mama doing what feels is best for her in her heart.  The recovery part was a huge reason for me choosing natural birth. Amazinggggg.  I felt better within hours after giving birth than I did while pregnant.  Very little soreness and was up and about right away.  It was especially great with my third because he was a preemie and I was able to walk down to the nicu an hour after he was born.

I’ve had 4 natural deliveries and recovery has been great! I’m generally up and showering a couple hours after i give birth and do skin to skin. I definitely try to rest as much as I can, but I’m generally feeling pretty good. I sit on a pillow if I sit on a hard chair for while, but other than that I don’t think it’s too painful. Good luck! I know everyone’s experience can be different, but I’ve been very happy with my recovery after a natural birth.

I have nothing to compare it to, but felt my recovery was smooth. Each passing day was easier than the last. The first couple of days you will be drained because your body went through something difficult, so get lots of help and rest 🤗 
Sits baths helped a great deal with my 1st degree tears. After 3-4 days, the majority of the sweeping had completely gone down

Had a natural birth 6 days ago. It was a perfect experience and the recovery has been comfortable. There's a general soreness, but my body is doing pretty well. I am able to move however I need to and I was able to get up and shower and what not right after giving birth.

For me it has been great.
The second one even better  than the first one ( that was already very good).
I was completely functional afterwards,  I took a shower as soon as I could, put on some make up and a pair of leggings and felt great.

I think it depends on how badly you tear. I know people who went completely natural and had a fourth degree tear and had a long recovery, and people who did an epidural and didn’t tear at all and had a quick recovery. It really just depends. But you should always rest at least two weeks after a birth no matter what because the placenta wound has to heal.

We have something called the 6 Sundays in bed. Which basically means you stay in bed resting and healing and nursing baby for 6 weeks. You don’t have to actually stay in bed the whole time but it is a reminder that you need this time to take it slow and don’t rush yourself into doing too much. Recovery after a natural birth is pretty fast but you still have the exhaustion from a newborn baby, nursing so you need to keep up your food and hydration, and bleeding from the placental wound. You will usually feel more back to normal (mentally and physically) after a natural birth than one with interventions because your natural hormones aren’t inhibited and they can run their course.

My recovery was really great! I was so glad to only be healing from the birth and not any back pain from an epidural procedure on top of it. Taking it REALLY easy the first two weeks is important - - I got woosy just trying to empty the dishwasher day 3. Not lifting anything heavier than baby really helps your abs heal and I ended up with no separation (diastasis recti)! I got one of those velcro girdles and it also helped my core feel supported the first few weeks.
