One year of dating anniversary...

Okay guys so I've actually never got this far in a relationship before so I need some advice!

Been with my boyfriend for a year on 9th September. He is going to book a restaurant we both love for the evening. My question to you guys is, should I be getting him something?! If so, what sort of budget should I be looking at etc? Any gift ideas?

To add, his birthday is ten days later on the 19th, so I have some ideas for that already.

I just don't want to make him feel bad by getting him something if he doesn't get me anything, but then I would feel bad if it was the other way around and I didnt get him something!
