Is a bottle sterilizer necessary?

First time mom here! Is a bottle sterilizer necessary? If not, how did you make sure the bottles were really clean?

Sterilization is an outdated practice. You really don’t have to sterilize a newborn’s bottles unless they are premature or have a compromised immune system.

I never really saw the point. If the water you use to wash them with is safe for drinking, then that's perfect for washing too, no?

They sell microwave bags that you can put the bottles in, put 2 ounces of water, and then microwave to steam the bottles clean.

I don’t sterilize. I trust myself and my dishwasher to get my own dishes clean so I trust the bottles will get just as clean.

If your water is safe for drinking it's safe for washing. I've never sterilized a bottle with any of my 3 babies.

It’s helpful, but not necessary. I have one from my first daughter, but haven’t used it with my second. I just used a bottle brush and dish soap for my breast pump parts & bottles. If you are planning to give many bottles, it might be convenient to have a sterilizer since it cleans everything so well.

Nope. I just wash them in hot soapy water.

I didn't buy a sterilizer machine. I bought one that you stick in the microwave and I loved it. Wash bottles, put them and a little water in it, and put in microwave for like 2 minutes. It was so easy and only costed my like $17.
