Prepare toddler for baby?

Hi mamas... I know some of you have had babies since have our Aug 17 kiddos. 
We're due with twin girls in about 4 months. 
My son just turned 2 and has some special needs (to simplify let's call it a speech delay).
Do you have any suggestions for preparing our toddler for the babies (besides giving him a babydoll)?

Sorry, long post but in my experience I really didn’t try to prepare my son for the new baby, I would always point at my belly and talk about the baby or sissy. He really just didn’t understand. One of my good friends had a baby about a month and a half before I had my daughter, we went over there and he had ZERO interest with the baby. He was crying and pulling at me when I was holding her, so naturally I got really nervous. 
HOWEVER, when my daughter was born it’s like he knew that was his sister and he absolutely loves her!! He wants to hold her, he gives her tons of kisses, he’ll just walk up to her and hold her hand and smile at her. His big brother instincts really kicked in for her. If he hears her crying he’ll gasp and say “oh no! Baby!” And run to her rescue.
Have faith that it’ll be okay. I really didn’t do anything, no baby dolls, nothing, and he is a fantastic big brother!

How exciting! I am due with a little girl in December as well - but twins will be fun! 
Since I haven’t gone through it before, I don’t have any proven advice. But we’ve been reading books (The New Baby, I’m a Big Brother, etc) to introduce the idea. He actually likes babies when we are with around friends and calls them cute - but I’m not sure how he’ll react when there is a baby in his house, crying, and not leaving 😳 
We talk about ‘baby sister’ a lot and what we plan on doing together as a family. But also will still have only child time where he gets to go with mama or dada on his own sometimes. Only time will tell!

We’re also reading some books about it and I talk to him pretty regularly about the baby. Do you guys have any friends with babies?

Sheesh. He is really in for a change. Twins will be a lot of work! I made just that my family did not only visit baby. The rule was they had to play with my oldest first for a period of time and then they could spend time holding baby. 
I'm not sure there is much you can other than talk about it. 
I tried to make my babe more independent before my second came. I got him used to playing independently a little more. Made sure we had mommy and me days where just him and I went out. 
My babe was so much younger when his brother came around though. So it was kinda a mute point. I don't know how I would do it now! Because they do understand quite a bit at this age!

I’m biased I think girls are the best. My August 17 baby is a girl and we’re expecting a boy at the end of November but I was crossing my fingers for twin girls lol
