I am a care worker and I work mainly with elderly people. I work with an elderly lady who was never married, never had kids, was engaged about 10 times. her Job consisted of travelling to developing countries tackling the problem of gender roles and doing workshops about it. I told her that my mom is quite a conservative woman, she’s managing the household alone, my dad never helps with cooking or cleaning and my mom is ok with that and that’s how she wants her marriage to be. (It doesn’t mean that no conservative men don’t help in the house) She’s a conservative Christian and sees the man as the head of the family which is ok because it’s her choice. She has the choice of living another life but doesn’t want to, just as me. I have quite a lot in common with her opinions. The elderly lady likes asking about my family and I told her about my mom and these things because that was something she specifically asked about. After I told her she told me that we gotta change my mom into a liberal. I told her that I don’t consider myself a liberal myself and that my mom is happy with the way she lives. She told me that every woman has to be a liberal and that every woman wants to be one and if they don’t want to be one then they need to attend a workshop about it and learn that they need to be one. And then they’ll all wake up and realise that this is the only way for every women. I don’t think there’s anything with being a liberal, whatever your definition of liberal is. But yes there are women who love the conservative lifestyle. I just tried to change the topic with the lady as quickly as possible. But to be honest it got on my nerves a bit. I really like this lady i just found it a bit narrow minded.
