If you’re an inmate in prison and pregnant should you be allowed to keep your baby?
So here I am sitting in my OB office waiting for my appointment and who walks in but some cracked out looking lady in cuffs with two officer escorts... not to judge but this lady looks like she’s about to burst, clearly very late in her pregnancy and although I understand in a sense she has every right to have this baby, at the same time I can’t help but think other things too like...
1) How far along was she when she went to jail? And how long will she be in jail while her baby is motherless?
2) If her crime was violent in nature should she be allowed to keep and raise a baby even if she’ll be released by the time it’s born?
3) Depending on the crime what type of role model will this woman be for her child?
4) Is this child likely to end up in foster care with the millions of other motherless/fatherless children there?
5) If you are early on in your pregnancy when taken into custody and likely to be in jail still when the baby is born should you be forced to terminate?
I just can’t imagine this child will have a good life. What are your thoughts?
