How does PayPal work?

I'm trying to sell something and have the person pay me through PayPal. My concern is, can they make the payment, I get the money in my bank account, and then they cancel their payment after they get the item or something? 
I'm so paranoid about getting scammed.

Once they recieve the product they can dispute the charges, however if you have communication between the 2 of you for an agreement about Xprice for Xproduct they (paypal) should drop the dispute. Most people dont screw you over like that though tbh

If they want a refund they have to open a claim

I agree with Trisha. I use PayPal for my business all the time. Just make sure you have correspondence documented in case they open a dispute.
