Breaks on my car

My mom noticed a squeal when I break. Aka a metal on metal sound. So clearly the break pads or something. If I were to get someone to do it for me (aka my neighbor or my bros girlfriends father) and had to buy the parts (my mom would be buying it cus I’m currently unemployed and I don’t have my license yet, which I’m trying to take my test soon but I’ve been practicing with my car driving to college) how much would break parts cost and where would I find them?

If I were to take it to a shop how much would that cost (an estimate) and how long would it take?

I’m aware not all females know the answer to this question but if you have a brother, a father, a boyfriend a husband, anyone who knows this info it would be greatly appreciated!

I just need this soon so I can finally get my license and be able to drive myself to school, and get a job. I had a job recently but quit cuz of the manager and other stuff, and I felt it’d be easier to wait until I’ve adjusted to college to try and get a new one (still been applying just no call backs) and also once I’ve got my license cuz not having a ride makes things difficult (I can’t take the bus because where I live it’d be incredibly dangerous and my mom won’t allow and can’t Uber or Lift cuz my mom won’t make me an account and I don’t have a credit card)
