Should happiness for our children be the main goal in schooling?
I was watching a documentary about Finland. Apparently Finland has one of the the best education systems (basically number 1). They have essentially no private schools. The rich people help fund the public schools to make them better and the rich kids get to go to school with the poor kids (which makes them a lot more empathetic to the less fortunate as they grow older). Also school days are much shorter and there is almost no homework (10-20 minutes). Most of the children excel in their studies and speak multiple different languages. They don’t do standardized testing and they care more about the children’s happiness. Classes like art, poetry, baking, and other creative things are essential to them. I think it’s really sad that the US school system seems to be based off of money and not much else. I really feel like we have it all wrong and need to focus on our youths happiness a bit more. What do you think?
