Both. Love itself is unconditional, but a relationship is conditional to some extent. I can love someone, but not be able to deal with their addiction, mental illness that they leave untreated, etc. I appreciate anyone who is trying, but if they aren’t, I’m not in anymore. And I also think is someone doesn’t love you (abusive, cheating, intentionally hurting you in some way) then they don’t deserve your unconditional love in return.

Both. Partners look for certain things in each other that makes them want to stick around, so that is considered conditional.

It *should* be unconditional but humans are not perfect and they definitely do not love unconditionally. Closest we come is with our family but even those ties can be broken if the relationship is pushed too far.

To me, if it’s real, honest, and true love, it will be unconditional, no matter the relationship. So it applies to a parent, a significant other, a friend, etc. I also think that with love being unconditional, if someone hurts you to the point where you have to step away, you can still love them afar because that’s what’s best for the relationship. For instance, I had a best friend all throughout high school and college that I loved like a sister. She did some things that hurt me so I decided I could no longer be her friend anymore. However, I still do love her and would not want any harm done to her.

Well there’s two schools of thought imo. One is marriage is death do us part so in that case love is unconditional and then there’s looking at it as conditionally bc some couples have certain things that if it happened it’s over... so it could go either way 🤷🏼‍♀️
